On the afternoon of 10 May 2025, Professor Nigel O’Leary, Head of Economics at Swansea University’s School of Management, delivered a lecture titled Sino-British Cultural Differences in Academic Lecture Hall No. 1 of Dezheng Building. The event was chaired by the dean of the School of Foreign Languages and attended by faculty members and students from the school.

Lecture Highlights

 The dean introduced Professor O’Leary and welcomed him on his second visit to the university. Drawing on his own educational experiences, Professor O’Leary explored cultural differences between China and Britain through accessible examples.

He encouraged students to make the most of university life, take the initiative in their studies, set clear academic and career goals, and manage their time effectively. He also shared practical advice on vocabulary learning, spoken English and academic writing, offering students guidance on developing their English language skills.

Discussion and Exchange

During the question-and-answer session, students asked about different aspects of English learning, and Professor O’Leary responded with advice and explanations. The lecture provided an opportunity for students to engage with an international academic, reflect on cultural differences and explore approaches to language learning. It also continued the academic exchanges between the two universities and encouraged intercultural understanding.
